From Idea to release in 5 days

So I've been working on my golf simulation game, BINK Golf, for about 4 months now and was getting a little burnt out. Looking at how much was left to do and feeling kind of bummed about how slow things have been moving, then looked over my current bug list. Yikes. It was stressing me out and I wanted to put something out there in the world.

But I didn't want to fall down a rabbit hole. The only other game I've really thought about is a type of 4x with focus on the simulated ecomony to make it immersive, but obviously that's a heck of a project for a solo dev like myself, bigger than the golf game.

I talked to other devs and they agreed a small-scope project to break things up. They recommended game jams but honestly I don't like working in a small box on someone else's theme for a game I won't want to continue later. So I made my own personal game jam: Finish a game in a week. Just for me

Here I am halfway through day 5 and I've spent the morning putting on some final touches and getting this thing working on HTML5 as well as testing it on linux (MSWin and MAC should work too, but you might have to fight your antivirus because I'm not registering the game and jumping through their hoops). Everything all set, okay, poof, it's out there in the world.

Your job is to destroy asteroids and collect the little golden drops from the large and medium sized ones. The game is 3D assets but it's got the feel of a top-down shooter and I kept the mechanics pretty simple. This is a space-physics game so WASD will use thrusters to push you in a direction relative to the direction you are facing and when you're moving you keep moving. I did set a speed limit in there so you don't get too crazy as outsize of the asteroid field you can get lost and go on forever until you run into floating point errors with your position vector.

Your ship's aim will follow the mouse cursor, and left click to fire. Hold the click for rapid fire.

Very chill game, pretty short. Once you get 500 points on a level you have the option to advance by pressing the spacebar, or you can keep mining out the field and then space when you're finished and you want more roids to shoot at. Esc will take you back to the mainscreen and there's no warning, so you hit escape, you terminate the current game, haha.
